Resident activity is beneficial in many ways
Through their own actions, residents can control their living costs and make their living environments more enjoyable. Forms of resident activity include both communal cooperation and the active efforts of individual residents – such as sorting wastes, controlling water consumption and renovating their own flats.
Through communal cooperation, such as organising yard-cleaning bees, the residents can make the outdoor areas more pleasant than what can be provided by the contracts with the maintenance companies. Reporting minor defects reduces the need for large-scale renovations which are financed through rents.
Vandalism and disturbances are less common in buildings where the residents actively participate in residential matters. This also directly affects the amount of money that must be allocated to vandalism-related repair work – not to mention how much more comfortable it is to live in a house that is free from disturbance.
Cooperation can be carried out in many different ways. Residents can organise bees, yard parties, jumble sales and events for children. Alternatively, they can get together and brainstorm ways to reduce water consumption.
Contact your housing manager to learn more about the possibilities of cooperation and ways to cover the costs of resident activities. The housing manager can also convene a residents' meeting where these issues can be collectively discussed.
